To get this shot I wore waders so that I could get out in the waves, creeping slowly closer to the gulls so as not to make them fly off. Not easy when it's very windy and the receding waves are doing their best to make you lose your foothold! I love the shallow depth-of-field in this image (created by using a large aperture), which makes a change from the normal front-to-back sharpness that suits most of my landscape images.
