A group and a solitary tree

May 17th 2013 - A quick trip to photograph the Avebury Beech Tree roots in infrared - second attempt and I'm glad I did (sun in
the wrong place on my first trip) . Couldn't resist a normal shot too whilst there: -

Great Clouds

May 16th 2013 - Great clouds today, so I took a quick trip to Berrow Beach, which has wide open spaces ideal for appreciating the drama in the sky: -

It's Fern time

15th May 2013: - Ferns are uncurling everywhere, I love this time of year. Bluebells will be peaking in a week or so. I'm enjoying the new Canon 6D very much
and hope to do a review sometime soon. If you're thinking of going full-frame, the 6D is a great way to start. Love the smooth shutter, horizon level and Aspect
Ratios (so you can compose in 4:3, 5x4, Square etc). It's so much better than the 5D II. Still waiting for built in flash, higher resolution and swivel screen, but
Canon don't agree with what I want in a camera, which is why Nikon are doing so well with the D800E

Quick trip to Wales

13th May 2013: - at last I could get out and take some pictures! I just love the Welsh castles, so I went to Chepstow then Tintern to get some infrared shots of St Marys Church ruins

Wells Cathedral

7th May 2013: - beautiful late sunlight on the west front of the Cathedral this evening, all shot with the amazing Canon TS-E 17mm Tilt-Shift lens,
which corrects for the bendy 'falling over backwards' look of normal wide lenses

Exmoor

13th March 2013: - A quick trip to Exmoor; went to Willett Tower for the first time - it's a ruined church tower folly near Elsworthy.
Took one sunny shot, and one moody - and I prefer the moody one by far, but the sunny one is more likely to sell

A fine spring day in Bath

6th March 2013: - Warm and sunny; have I woken up in another country? No, it's a rare day in early spring. For years I've
seen the crocuses grow here at The Circus, I finally caught a good day when they were out in flower

Watern Tor, Dartmoor

19th February 2013: - Two hour walk to Watern Tor; it may look nice and sunny but it was freezing cold and windy. On the way back I fell into a bog which came up to my groin! I laughed aloud, shame there was no-one else to see it. Spent the next two hours in soggy trousers. The walk I took was long, around the hills - to miss out the boggy areas. Ahem.

Blacknore Lighthouse

7th February 2013: - Blacknore Lighthouse, Portishead. After several unsuccessful trips I got some good shots within a few hours. It's great to be by the sea when the sun's going down; crashing waves, fresh air, beautiful light. I love the green rolling hills of England,
but being near the sea beats the countryside every time for me

Broadway Tower

1st February 2013: - Broadway Tower is a folly built in 1799, high above sea level on the Cotswold Hills. William Morris
(designer) and Edward Burne-Jones (Pre-Raphaelite Painter) apparently stayed here in the 19th Century

More snow over Somerset

29th January 2013: - I had to walk up to the top of The Mendip Hills because of deep snow forbidding driving;
heavy going with my gear, but worth it

Severn Bridges

9th January 2013: - Why bother going to places that you've already successfully photographed many times before?
Because I love being there, and I often come up with something a little different than before

Ilfracombe & Somerset Levels

19th December 2012: - Quick trip to see the new Damien Hirst statue at Ilfracombe - I liked it, but a lot of the locals don't.
The statue of a proud pregnant woman standing has her newborn and innards showing on one side.
Still plenty of flood water on the Somerset Levels; come on sun we need to see more of you

Sunset over Marine Lake, Weston-super-Mare

29th Nov 2012: - It made huge plumes of smoke to get my broken car started so I almost gave up. With a healthy car I'd have gone to the Somerset Levels, but with my dodgy one I thought I'd stay near home. I'm glad I did, it was a great sunset (even if I have already got many images of this view!)

Sunset over Burrow Mump

21/11/2012: - Sun all the way on the journey down, then as soon as I got there it clouded over - so many times this has happened!
I waited, got fed up, then went for a drive only to find the roads nearby completely flooded. I came back and.....well you can see
how great it was. 10 good images from one session is very rare; I'm normally happy with one!

Sunset over Clifton Suspension Bridge

17/11/2012: - This sunset was a welcome surprise; it looked like it would grey over completely on my way there, but it ended up
with the perfect amount of cloud for a glorious backdrop!

Bristol Graffiti and Street Art

10/11/2012: - Bristol has the best graffiti and street art ever, so this years renewed work in Nelson Street had to be seen.
Personally I prefer last years, but some of the art I found in Bedminster just had to be photographed. So skilful, so ephemeral and I
just love the textures created by the surfaces (brick, pebbledash, render etc). Do yourself a favour, go on a Bristol street art trail

Autumn Trees Day and Night, Bath and Wiltshire

7/11/2012: - Finally made a good panoramic of Autumnal trees, something that's been in the back of my mind for too long.
Particularly pleased with the balance of white light (created by my LEDs) and warm street lighting in the images of The Circus
in my old home town of Bath, and the scattering of leaves complete the images nicely. Don't you just love Autumn?
